Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death initiated the story’s plot—used the enemy for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, desires vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could assist the party enter places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Fans can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
